AP 103: Analysis of Achievement Test and Diploma Exam Results

Background

Student achievement is enhanced through analyzing Provincial Achievement Test and/or Diploma Examination results.

Procedures

  1. The analysis of Provincial Achievement tests by schools shall follow the Alberta Education Guidelines for Interpreting and Using the Results of Achievement Tests distributed with the annual achievement test results.
  2. The analysis of Diploma examinations by schools shall follow the Alberta Education Guidelines for Interpreting and Using the Results of the Diploma Examinations that accompany the diploma examinations results.
  3. The Principal(s) and staff shall collaborate in the interpretation and analysis of the results of Diploma Examination and Provincial Achievement tests by division. In some cases this will require collaboration between schools. The principal at the higher grade level shall be responsible for organizing a date and venue for collaboration.
  4. Caution is advised in interpreting the results for grades or classes of less than twenty (20) students and/or if you have less than three consecutive years of data. When possible, data and interpretations of data shall be kept for three consecutive years.
  5. Following the analysis, the Principal shall include an action plan in their annual AERR.
    1. The written action plan will include interpretation of the results and address growth areas, strengths and successes.
    2. Action plans must address FNMI achievement.
  6. The role of the teacher will include:
    1. To work with other teachers in the interpretation and analysis of test results;
    2. To contribute to the development of the school report by collaborating with other teachers in their grade and division to develop recommendations and action plans for improved student learning.
  7. The role of the principal(s) will include:
    1. To facilitate teacher collaboration across all grades and divisions in the interpretation and analysis of test results and to develop recommendations and action plans for improved student learning;
    2. To establish school targets annually for each subject in relation to jurisdiction and provincial targets;
    3. To ensure that all teachers are familiar with and are using the subject blueprints available for all subjects tested by Alberta Education in Grades 3, 6, 9 and 30 level courses.
    4. To develop and implement a plan to improve student learning;
    5. To share results with parents; and
    6. To develop the school report for the schools’ submission to the AERR.
