AP 213: Special Instructional Programs

Background

The Division believes students must have equality of educational opportunity.

Educational programs are to be adapted to meet the individual needs of students while
permitting the student to remain within a “regular” classroom situation to the greatest
possible degree.

It is also recognized that in some situations it is desirable to instruct certain students,
individually or collectively, outside the "regular" classroom situation in order to provide
programs designed specifically to meet their needs.

Procedures

  1. Classes and programs within the Division schools are to be structured so as to maximize the provision of special instructional programs within “regular” classroom situations; staff are made available to provide additional or alternative programming where required;
  2. Parents are involved in decisions about their children’s placement; and
  3. Parents are advised of the appeal process.
