AP 300: Student Age

Background

The Division strongly supports a provincially funded early childhood services (ECS) program. Students under the age of six may voluntarily attend an ECS program. Where such programs are offered by the Division, it supports an integrated model of services involving staff, parents and the community.

All students who are older than 6 and younger than 19 are entitled to have access to an education.

Procedures

  1. A beginning student must attain the age of five years on or before December 31 of the school year in which the student applies for admission to a division ECS program.
  2. A beginning student must attain the age of six years on or before December 31 of the school year in which the student applies for admission to Grade 1.
  3. The Early Childhood Services Program will adhere to the beliefs, principals, goals and program dimensions as set out in the current Alberta Education Program Statement.
  4. Where ECS programs are offered by the Division, students are considered as enrolled students for budgeting purposes and as such are part of the whole school’s budget process.
