Board Message
As Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, I take great pleasure in welcoming all students, staff, parents and visitors to Northern Lights School Division No. 69.
Northern Lights School Division’s first order of business is to maximize student achievement. The Division has implemented a number of innovative ideas in order to meet its goals. Northern Lights works to help its students become more literate, recognizing that learning to read and learning to learn are the main cornerstones in lifelong success. Our literacy enhanced kindergarten program provides a strong beginning for our students; other programs assist students in developing and maintaining strong literacy skills.
Literacy is not our only focus. Northern Lights also believes that Moral Intelligence is imperative in today’s day and age, and our students learn and practice moral intelligence in class, on the playground and in their communities. Communities and schools within the Northern Lights School Division boundaries have benefited from a three year moral intelligence program run in our schools based on the work of author Michele Borba. This program is helping our staff build skills in today’s students that will lead to a more inclusive society and promise a kinder, gentler, and more morally sound future for all of us.
Northern Lights will continue to implement effective new teaching strategies in all subject areas while modeling and reinforcing the importance of lifelong learning. Feel free to surf our website to learn more about the initiatives and programs our division is involved with.
The Board believes in the importance of communication. We encourage the community to share views with us by calling a trustee, writing a letter to the Board of Trustees, or attending a Board meeting. At Northern Lights, our mission is "working together to help every student learn and excel". We look forward to working with you as we educate tomorrow's workforce.
Sincerely,Walter Hrycauk, Board Chair
