Division Support Team - Mental Health Consultant-Lac La Biche/SFSK Projector Coordinator
My name is Jana McKinley and this is my 17th year with Northern Lights Public Schools. I worked as a Student Advocacy Counsellor for eight years and have been employed as the coordinator of the Mental Health Capacity Building in Schools program (Successful Families-Successful Kids) for the past 8 years. I am passionate about helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health in hopes that more of our students realize that it is okay to ask for help if they experience a mental health problem. I am also a big fan of teaching students the skills they need to help navigate life's ups and downs through Mindfulness. My other hats with NLPS are as a Mental Health Consultant and as the Division Coordinator of the Community Helpers Program.
I originally hail from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (go Riders!) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina, and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Calgary. I am currently completing training through the Child Trauma Academy in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics which helps us better understand and support children who have experienced trauma.
